Carolina Rose - Rosa carolina

This is a native shrub in the Roseace family that thrives in both dryish and wet soils. Typically found in glades, open woods, or prairies – the shrub grows from 6 inches to 5 feet tall. From thorny stems are borne fragrant, 2 in. wide, 5-petaled, pink flowers. Flowers occur singly or in small clusters. The fruit, a hip, turns from dark green to bright red as it ripens. Blooms occur in the Spring.. The fruit occurs in the Fall.
